“Queer people are being told we shouldn’t exist.”

Drag is the best thing that's ever happened to me, and it’s the most important thing in my life right now. I find it very inspiring that drag gives me infinite ways to express myself and infinite ways to look. Drag is a way to show people that there are more ways to live than what we’ve been told, and it helps queer youth see themselves in others. It’s important that young people have role models who are thriving.

It’s definitely a scary time to be a drag artist. Politicians are currently using drag as a distraction, and they are choosing to attack trans and queer communities. Queer people are being told we shouldn’t exist. Continuing to show up and be ourselves is an act of political defiance.

I perform two to three drag shows every week, and it’s scary that politicians could take away my rights without repercussions. I would be devastated if drag were outlawed. It would take away my income, my ability to meet people, and my whole community.

I’m in college, working my way toward a bachelor of arts degree in entrepreneurship and innovation, because I want to open a drag club when I’m older.
